Drugstore Dirt: Wet n Wild I heart Matte palette

As a former makeup snob who has recently rediscovered the gems that the drugstore holds, I would like to make a point of sharing these treasures with you. We can't always spend as much as we want on beauty, and it's time everyone realizes YOU DO NOT HAVE TO. Plenty of amazing beauty finds do not include a price sticker high enough to give your signifigant other palpitations. Because of this, I plan to regularly feauture cheap drugstore finds that perform, and many times outshine, their high end sisters.

One of my favorite, and the cheapest, beauty brands out there is Wet n Wild. Yes, the Wet n Wild we all had as kids s actually an amazing, high performing, cosmetic company. My favorite products from Wet n Wild hands down are their eyeshadows. Now every company, even the highest end, has hits and misses. Therefore I am not going to state that every shadow Wet n Wild produces is holy grail. However, I find their quality and consistency to match, and often surpass, that of the shadow goddesses MAC, Urban Decay, Sugar Pill, and many more. Their pigmentation is typically outrageous, textures are a dream, and the lasting power kicks some serious beauty booty!

This being said my current Wet n Wild favorite (one of many I must add) is their newest palette: I <3 Matte. As the name suggests this palette consists of 8 matte shadows in one compact palette. This palette is a godsend for those of us who don't always want shimmer and glitter over our entire lid. Girls with crepey or hooded lids unite--this palette is a lifesaver when disguiseing the beginning signs of aging, or hiding a hooded lid that seems to droop a bit further if you even look at it cross-eyed. So before this post turns into an e-informerical, here's the goods on one of my favorite palettes, low and high end included!

Packaging: this palette comes to you in the typical Wet n Wild 8 pan style. Clear plastic top covers the 8 shadow pans that rest inside the black plastic casing. I think Wet n Wild certainly saves in packaging which likely helps keeps their prices low. If you're like me, and like to keep your shadows clearly labeled, do no pull of the black sticker label as the name of the product can't be found on the back. The back of the package includes color placement suggestions as well as different shadow combinations and names for these ( such as: sweet look, flirty look etc).

Colors: The indivdual shades in this palette do not have names, therefore I will simply describe the colors based on their placement in the pan. The pan is spilt into two coloumns of shades. The left side includes four punchy cool brights, the right is four slightly warm neutrals.

Here's what you can find:
1. A matte stark white. This shade can run a bit chalky if packed on carelessly. But a little practice and it can be a dream for highlighting with precision, brightening the eye, blending out harsh edges, or as a base for other light colored shadows.
2. A light matte emerald clear green. Looks lovely on the lid or brought into the crease. Would be gorgeous on any eye color but I adore greens on brown eyes and blue.
3. A matte bright turquoise blue. Amazingly pigmented and buttery soft. Awesome on brown or green eyes and great as a liner or under lower lashes. This is one of the stand out shades in the package, and perhaps the most lovely on the bright side of the palette.
4. A pretty matte violet purple. This shade has gotten some flack as it really isn't as pigmented and bright as the other shades included. However, I find the actual shade gorgeous and buildable. It would look great on any eye color but might perform best over a base.
5. A matte peachy cream skin-tone shade. This is an awesome subtle highlight on medium and tan skin tones and is perfect for blending out harsh color lines and brightening lids.
6. A warm matte peach. This is my go to transition color. It blends effortlessly and adds a touch of warmth to my eyes as I typically wear cooler shadow combinations.
7. A neutral to warm matte brown shade. This makes an effortless crease color and can be built from fairly sheer to rich and chocolatey depth.
8. Deep matte black. I use this shade to soften or smoke out my liner, darken my outer v, and sometimes extend past my crease to disguise my hooded lid.

The Last Word: This palette is a Walgreen's exclusive but is certainly worth the trip if you are in search of a versatile matte shadow collection. If you can't find it in stores it can be sought out online, but expect to have to pay an inflated price. At just $4.99 it likely won't break the bank and you'll quickly find yourself reaching for it daily as I do. Matte shadows are perfect for aging or sagging and hooded lids as shimmer and frost can accentuate crepey wrinkled lid texture and bring light and attention to areas of your lid you would like to recede or hide. Even if you just buy the palette for its awesome transition and blending assistance you will certainly recieve your money's worth ten-fold. Let me know what you think!
