Think Outside the Box Thursday
For my first "Think Outside the Box Thursday" I am featuring one of my favorite makeup looks that I have created--zombie! With the sudden media explosion of all things zombie, and my own fascination, I jumped at the chance to create a zombie look when my town organized it's first Zombie Walk.
For those of you not lucky enough to have ever participated in a Zombie Walk, it's basically just a bunch of people who meet in a selected location, decked out in their finest zombie inspired garb, and walk in one big mass around a preselected location. Basically, a huge group of us met at The City Market, left donations for the food bank, shot a bunch of promotional pictures, and walked en masse around downtown. We moaned and limped, scared a few children and one old lady in a wheelchair, made some short films, and went on our way. It was a blast, an awesome excuse to try crazy makeup, and for a good cause.
To create my zombie look I used regular cosmetics, some theatrical blood, one prosthetic wound, toilet paper, Elmer's glue, and eyelash glue. Yes, I said toilet paper and glue. Basically you smear locations that you wish to turn into a wound with glue. Then you gently pat on a thin layer of one ply layer of toilet paper, making sure to move it around a bit to create texture, let it dry a bit, then use some kind of pokey sharp thing (yea, this is the technical term) to create a small rip or pocket in your wound. Then you cover the toilet paper with makeup (I used coastal scents 88 matte palette and MAC makeup) add bruises and blood, and you're done. I even added a goopy thick red lipgloss to the wounds as it looked like thick coagulating blood :)
All and all I think it turned out pretty hot. Perhaps I'll feature an in depth tutorial on Tutorial Tuesday one of these days. I ended up doing my husband and friend's makeup as well, everyone looked great and we ended up in the newspaper. To conclude this post about thinking outside of the box with makeup, I'd like to add one last thing...BRAAAAAIIIINS!!!!
